'The CDS has hit me with a kitten': A kitten trapped in a wall gets a dramatic rescue, a full meal, and a purrmanent place in a four-cat home

The cat distribution system said time for one more rescue.

Four cats through the cat distribution system and somehow another one shows up. This catto was pulled from inside a wall and named Oatmeal. A stray had kittens in an attic and two fell into the wall by a coworker's apartment. While the mother managed to retrieve one, the other was left behind crying until the coworker got him out. From there he got passed along and quickly upgraded from wall kitten to house kitten.

Oatmeal seems to have settled into the role immediately, especially once the wet food came out. After attacking a bowl of food for ten straight minutes, he's figured out that home is where the food is. But along with the cuteness comes the usual rescue scramble: figuring out how young he is, watching for health issues, setting up quarantine from the other cats, calling vets, monitoring litter box habits, and basically turning into a full-time kitten manager overnight.

It is hard not to like how much changed for him in a day or two. He went from stuck in a wall and crying for help to being fed, watched over, and fussed over. That is a pretty good turn for a tiny stray.

Oatmeal already sounds like he has the makings of a classic rescue success story. A rough start, a dramatic save, a huge appetite, and now a safe place to crash. Little man seems to have landed on his paws.

    Enter this little thing, now named Oatmeal. Basically, one of my coworkers lives in an apt building and a stray had kittens in the attic (she doesn't have access). But 2 of them fell down into the wall next to my coworker's unit, where she thankfully had a hole to access them.

    The mom came down and eventually took 1 up but not the other. She thinks it's cause it was bigger and harder to get back up. It was left there for at least day and it cried for hours on day 2

    before my coworker intervened and got it out. She had it for 2 days, so far, and said she'd been giving it kitten milk and dry food cause, at the time, it didn't want

    wet food. I took him home and offered him kitten wet food, which he practically attacked for a good 10min, so that's a big relief.

    This is the youngest kitten I've had distributed, to me. Her best guess was 4 weeks. I plan to put out water and then try feeding him wet food with kitten milk mixed in, in another 4-6hrs.

    My only concern now is the 3 other cats I have. He's quarantined right now. I think this one definitely has something so I'm gonna call some vets in the morning to see if anyone can see him in the next 1-3

    passed out, but I'm gonna bug him in an hour or 2 for bathroom. My coworker said he pooped and peed at her place without her help, but he hasn't shown interest in the little litter box I set up for him so I'm unsure about that.

  • Amazing rescue story from start to finish. It has everything: drama, a tiny kitten with a big survival instinct, kind people stepping in at the right moment, and a really hopeful ending. Hard not to get invested in a little guy who went from trapped in a wall to curled up safe after a full meal. Stories like this are such a good reminder how much one person stepping in can change things for an animal.

  • Sending hugs through the screen to this little guy. Oatmeal has already been through a lot for something so tiny, and it is hard not to root for him. From being stuck in a wall to landing somewhere safe, warm, and cared for, that is a journey. Hoping the vet visit goes smoothly and this little fuzzball keeps thriving. He already seems to have found people ready to love him, which is the best kind of rescue ending.

  • The perfect number of cats always seems to be one more. Just when you think you’ve reached capacity, the cat distribution system shows up to test that theory. There is always somehow room for one more tiny stray with a big personality and a dramatic entrance. Cat math has never made much sense anyway. Four cats can feel full right up until a kitten named Oatmeal appears and suddenly five starts sounding completely reasonable.
